Thread Rolling

mexerv-threadrolling-process

In the thread rolling process, metal stock is deformed by making it roll on dies. This in turn produces threads on the surface of the metal. Internal threads can also be formed on the same principle. Thread rolling is not a subtractive process since it does not remove metal, as opposed to thread cutting. There are many screw threads based on their form. Some common types are V-Thread, Metric Thread, Acme Thread, Knuckle Thread etc.

Thread Rolling provides the following advantages

  • Strength of the thread is high.
  • The surface finish is very good.
  • The threading possesses high precision.
  • Since thread rolling is a fast process it leads to lower production lead times.
  • Quite a cost effective option.
  • Co-efficient of friction is low.
